Delta Air Lines announced a partnership with California-based startup JetZero to develop an innovative passenger aircraft, inspired by fighter jets, that could reduce emissions and fuel costs.

With an integrated fuselage design, different from the traditional tube-and-wing shape, the aircraft will be lighter, quieter, and capable of carrying more than 250 passengers.

The first flight is expected in 2027, as part of Delta’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

JetZero received a grant from the U.S. Air Force to build a full-scale prototype, and Delta will contribute its operational expertise to make the project commercially viable.

Additionally, the airline will be responsible for the cabin design, which will offer more space in the overhead bins, accessible seats and restrooms, and fewer rows. The goal is for the aircraft to operate on sustainable aviation fuel, helping to significantly reduce future emissions.

The CEO of JetZero, Tom O’Leary, highlighted that the new technology could transform the industry, making air travel more efficient and sustainable. He emphasized Delta’s support since 2023 and the importance of the partnership to achieve the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Delta reinforced its commitment to developing innovative solutions and working with different partners to drive sustainability in the aviation sector.
